Made:
1850-1904 in Hitchin

Model (Scale 1:8) of hay, corn & straw elevator on carriage, by G. H. Innes & Co., Hitchin

This type of machine was first introduced about 1850 to lighten the work of building a stack. It was designed in such a way that as the stack increased in height the trough could be moved outwards as well as upwards. This enabled the elevator to continue to deliver the hay near the centre of the stack, and was accomplished by means of the hinged frame at the hopper end. The elevator was intended to be driven either by horse gear or a portable engine though belting, and it was easily transported.
