Model of patent reaping machine, 1870, Simplex, scale 1:8

This is an elaborate example with various controls to regulate the position and height of the cut. IT was also possible to vary the size of the sheaf by making all four, or only two of the rake-bars sweep across the platform. In the latter case the other two acted as sails only, to press the crop against the knives for cutting.
