Fowler - Wyles motor plough, two furrows, by John Fowler & Co. (Leeds) Ltd. Serial No. 5 277-288?, ca, 1917. Two-cylinder engine. Fowler entered into an agreement with Wyles Motor Ploughs of Manchester to make Alfred Wyles's design of motor plough in order to gain entry into the market for internal combustioned engine farming machinery. The general concept of the motor plough was probably designed to appeal to conservative elements who preferred their ploughs to be in front of them as per horse ploughing, rather than having the plough trailed behind. Several other companies dabbled in the same basic design, and Fowler went on to build a 6- furrow monster version. Lessons learned from this and the Wyles machine, were developed into the 'Agritractor' available in four sizes up to 4 furrows. Over two hundred such machines were produced, the majority being sold in Great Britain. While many survived until WWII they did not challenge the supremacy of the Fordson in the UK tractor market of the inter-war ye
