1:4 scale model of X4 (Miranda) satellite.
This is a model of the Miranda X4 satellite, made to scale 1:4, which was made for the Royal Aircraft Establishment, now the Defence Evaluation Research Agency (DERA). X4 was to have been launched by the Black Arrow rocket. Unfortunately, that programme had been cancelled and, in 1974, the satellite was launched by a US Scout rocket instead. The X series of British satellites were technology demonstrators that investigated the viability of materials and systems in space.
