This is replica of Telstar 1, the world's first commercial communications satellite. It was a joint venture between the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, Bell Telephone laboratories, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and was the first in a series of experimental satellites. The Telstar 1 was launched on July 10, 1962. Telstar 1 was used to broadcast the first live transatlantic television broadcast on July 23 1962, and included images of the Statue of Liberty.
