Model of the 4-gun naval schooner / advice boat 'Express', 1815
Model, scale 1:48, rigged, of the 4-gun naval schooner / advice boat 'Express', original built in Plymouth Yard, 1815, model made from a draught in the National Maritime Museum, London, by Robert Orr, Hampstead, London, England, 1928-1930. The text on the draught reads: 'Scale: 1:48. A plan showing the body plan with stern board outline, sheer lines with inboard detail, and longitudinal half-breadth for 'Express' (1815?), a 4-gun Schooner/Advice Boat. 'Express' was acquired in America, possibly purchased in 1809 [Dittmar] or captured in 1815 [Lyon], or purchased in 1815 [Winfield]. Signed Thomas Roberts [Master Shipwright, Plymouth Dockyard, 1813-1815]'.
Whole model (rigged in Museum) of the naval schooner 'Express', 1815. Scale1:48. It is not clear whether this vessel was built by Thomas Roberts, at Plymouth, or whether she was a captured American vessel, 'Anna Maria', which he modified to Admiralty requirements.
