Cartwright (Myton) Collection


Photographs, a collection of 856 silver gelatin prints, mounted on album pages in two volumes of 149 and 44 pages; 583 6cm safety film negatives, featuring signal boxes in British Railways North Eastern region, mainly York area, 1956-1957. Indexed. Believed to be the work of Cyril Myton, later passed to his friend, W.L Cartwright.

The Cartwright (Myton) Collection contains Bill Cartwright's photographs of British Railways' North Eastern Region signalboxes which were taken as part of his work as a signal engineer based in Yorkshire. His photographs show the boxes themselves, level crossings, and some signal box interiors, mainly in Yorkshire but also the North East, including the Newcastle-upon-Tyne area.
