A collection of photographs taken by Cuthbert Hamilton-Ellis. Approximately 1,025 cellulose nitrate film negatives and 8 glass plate negatives featuring railways in Britain, Ireland and overseas. The photographs are predominantly of trains moving through the landscape and at railway stations with some photographs of infrastructure, carriage interiors and landscapes.

Hamilton Ellis's collection of railway negatives covers locomotives and trains of the London North Eastern Railway, Southern Railway, Great Western Railway and the London Midland and Scottish Railway. British Railways, Irish, overseas and industrial railways are also represented.

Some of Hamilton-Ellis' oil paintings and drawings are held in the National Railway Museum's pictorial collections.
