Folded copper sheet mathematical model.

This is one of two mathematical models which were made by Elizabeth Hemmings, a design student, by folding soft copper forwards or backwards in regular steps, rather like a knitting pattern. Different sequences of folds produce different shapes and the overall form was chosen on aesthetic grounds. Although not based on any general mathematical rules, the sculptures incorporate the principles of symmetry and tiling.
