The Marconi Mark II was a 3 inch diameter image orthicon television camera. Camera control units (CCU) like this one handled signals between individual cameras and a broadcaster’s control room. This unit also contains a picture and waveform monitor. All the parts within the CCU could be pulled out in a drawer-like fashion for easy servicing. First appearing in 1951, the Marconi Mark II camera continued to be used by broadcasters such as the BBC throughout the 1950s for outside broadcasts, including notably during the televising of the 1953 Coronation of Elizabeth II.
