Colour lithograph. Metropolitan Railway. Kings Cross Metropolitan Station as it appeared in 1863 when it opened as part of the original section of the Metropolitan Railway, the world's first passenger carrying underground railway. The line was built to connect the main line termini at Paddington, Euston and King's Cross, with rail links to the Great Northern Railway at Kings's Cross and the Great Wesfern Railway at Paddington. GWR trains could run along the route as it was built as dual gauge to accomodate their broad gauge trains.
