This published print was based on an original watercolour by Squirrell. Carriage prints were mounted above the seats in railway carriage compartments and were typically scenic views of places that could be visited by rail. This one was published by British Railways North Eastern Region.

Leonard Squirrell, who was born in Ipswich in 1893, was a commercial artist, who produced a large number of posters and carriage prints for railway companies. He died in 1979.
