Sample of high temperature superconducting tape, made and presented by the University of Oxford, Department of Engineering Sciences, 1996
BSCCO Superconducting Tape
Magnets and cables are usually made from wire but it is very difficult to make a ceramic superconductor that shape. One solution is to make a flat tape that is flexible enough to be wound into a flat coil called a pancake. This type of coil is used to make magnets.
