Papers of E A Langridge

Papers of E A Langridge, locomotive designer, concerning his railway career at Ashford and Derby Works. The papers include draughtsman's notebooks and papers and reports concerning steam and diesel locomotives, c1914-1959. Consists of 4 boxes.

E A Langridge was a talented apprentice with the London & South Western Railway and got an early opportunity to work in the Eastleigh drawing office filling in for railway workers who had joined the armed forces during the First World War. It was there that he found his vocation amongst the slide rules and drafting tables. On completion of his apprenticeship he left to join the Midland Railway in 1920, where he would spend the next 39 years of his career. Under W A Stanier, Langridge worked on the Jubilee, Princess and Duchess classes and speciailsed in boiler design.
