One set of exhaust pipes for a Formula One racing car, of nickel alloy (Inconel), made and presented by McLaren International, 1996. The ability to withstand high temperatures without melting or corroding and to retain strength at those temperatures is crucially important in certain situations. Nickel has proved to be a remarkable base metal for high - temperature alloys and is capable of maintaining good strength up to about 70% of its melting point. Nickel improves the heat resistance, strength, hardness and toughness of most of its alloys.
