Maw's type anti-colic feeding bottle, made of polycarbonate, silicone and polypropylene, by Jackel International Ltd., c. 1996

According the NHS, colic is where a baby cries but for no reason obvious to their grown ups. They may be hard to soothe, go red in their face or be very windy and may have a swollen belly. A range of anti-colic bottles are available. Their makers say that the bottles may help with reflux as they reduce the risk of babies swallowing air while feeding. While crying, babies may also take in more air, also making them feel full and uncomfortable.

Maw, and its subsequent names of S Maw & Sons were makers of medical and surgical equipment and they developed a range of infant feeding bottles from the 1860s onwards.
