This 4-gun screw sloop was built of wood and launched at Pembroke in May 1865 from the designs of Mr E. J. Reed, Chief Constructor at the Admiralty. She was subsequently lost in July 1866 after being in a collision with the S.S. "Osprey" in the Channel.
The engines, by Messrs. Ravenhill, Salkeld & Co., were of the horizontal type with surface condensers, having two cylinders 62 inches diam., by 27 inches stroke. The trials took place in November 1865 when, with 29 lb. pressure of steam, a speed of 11.5 knots was obtained, the engines indicating 1523 horsepower.
The armament consisted of two 6-ton M.L.R. guns, and two 64-pounders; the complement of men was 130.
Displacement, 1480 tons; length (b.p.) 187 ft.; breadth 36 ft; draught 9.25 ft.
