Model of self-acting hay rake, c. 1870 scale 1:4

Made by Messrs. Howard of Bedford, this was claimed to have been one of the first self acting hay rakes introduced. It was awarded the Society's medal at the Royal Agricultural Society of Englands meeting at Oxford in 1870. The advantage of this type of rake over the previous patterns used, was that no actual exertion was required to empty the load; this operation being derived by the driver by means of a foot pedal.
