Line drawing with wash, hand-coloured to distinguish the lines of six different companies. Bears facsimile signatures of F.D. Banister, engineer of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway, 13 Oct 1884, and of Francis Wilton, engineer of the ELR, 28 Nov 1884. Incorporated in 1865, the ELR opened from Wapping to New Cross in 1869 to provide a link between the LB & SCR and the South Eastern Railway. Further spur lines linked it with the South London Railway, the Great Eastern Railway and the District Railway.
