Harvey Harmonic Analyser, original prototype model, made by E.A. Nehan , in fitted wooden case

In 1934 John Harvey designed this instrument in the workshop of Imperial College where he was a lecturer. It is a prototype of an instrument which can analyse a curve into ten harmonic components. It can also be adopted for use as a planimeter to measure an area. Harvey’s harmonic analyser was later produced commercially by the company Alfred J. Amsler & Co in Switzerland.
