Iron Pricket Sconce with inscription from Brussels, 1909, made in central Europe
Wax and tallow candles made by repeated dipping were soft and could easily be impaled on the spikes of pricket candleholders like this one. The socket type of holder was uncommon before the 16th century. This holder originated from Belgian.
