Early gauze top "C" burner

Early gauze top "C" burner and later steatite top upright incandescent burner.

Introduced about 1890, the 'C' burner was the Welsbach Company's third production design. The gas injector consists of five pin holes; the primary air intake is fixed and the long mixing tube leads to a gauze mantle outlet. With this burner, Heald introduced the fireclay fork mantle support.

This burner also has a 'by-pass' - a narrow pipe that allows gas to by-pass the main gas cock and provide a constant pilot light to ignite the main gas flow when the main gas cock is opened.
