A Collection of 147 photographs taken by W J Barker. 147 glass plate negatives featuring posed views of North Eastern and Midland Railway locomotives at York, Newcastle and Gateshead, c. 1890-1900 and London & North Eastern Railway and London Midland & Scottish Railway locomotives and trains in Yorkshire c. 1923-1933. Also a small number of copy negatives of engravings and Stockton & Darlington Railway locomotives photographed on display at Darlington Station in 1894.

The collection includes views of static locomotives at Neville Hill and Holbeck sheds in Leeds, together with action photographs of passing trains, some dating from as early as 1890.
