Safety lamp, Glover and Cail, Mueseler type, from Mr. Glover, maker: John Cail, marking: makers name, 1852

Presented by R. M. Glover, Esq., M.D.

This is of the Mueseler type, and embodies improvements patented by in 1852 Dr. Glover and Mr. J. Cail. There are two concentric glass cylinders, the annular space being covered at the top and bottom by wire gauze. The air for combustion traverses this space, thus exerting a cooling effect on the glass. On a level with the top of the glasses is a short conical tube to direct the products of combustion into a gauze case. A vertical screw lock is fitted.
