Safety lamp, Ackroyd and Best, Clanny type (bonnetted), maker: Ackroyd and Best, Morley, Leeds, marking: makers name and "owners", 1901
This lamp is of the bonneted Clanny type, and besides embodying details shown in No. 42 is adapted under W. Ackroyd and W. Best's patents of 1898-9 for burning petroleum spirit. Feed air is admitted through horizontal holes in the flange above the glass, but is baffled by an internal flange before passing the gauze. The air passes through holes under the glass chimney which surrounds the wick to promote combustion. The exits in the bonnet for the waste gases are protected by a short inner shield. A magnetic lock is fitted.
