Safety lamp, 'Sight', Clanny type (bonnetted), maker: The Patent Sight Lamp Co., Birmingham, marking: makers name, 1889-1904
Presented by Messrs. The Patent Sight Lamp Co.
This is an oil lamp of the bonneted Clanny type, with improvements patented in 1889 by Mr. L. Jenkins. Its name is derived from the fact that the bonnet is of glass protected by a closely fitting metal case, with slots through which any gas burning in the upper part of the lamp is visible. The exit for the products of combustion on the top of the bonnet can be closed by releasing a spring cap. A screw lock is fitted.
