Safety lamp, Trussel, Clanny type (bonnetted), maker: W. Trussel, Nottingham, 1895-1904.
Made by W. Trussel, Esq.
This is an oil lamp of the bonneted Clanny type, the peculiarity being the lock, which was patented in 1895 by Mr. T. Trussel. The reservoir is screwed into the cage till vertical holes in them coincide; a spill of wood (coloured differently for different days) is inserted and forced down by a wire which is split at the end to prevent its being drawn back. To unlock the lamp the wooden spill is sheared off, the reservoir and the cage being made octagonal for the purpose. These fit into the two boxes shown, one of which can be moved relative to the other by a screw and hand -wheel.
