Miner's safety lamp, electric. Patent no.3260, 1885 f

This is a combination of a small glow lamp with a secondary battery of the form patented by Mr. Pitkin in 1885-6. The glow lamp is looped on to the terminals and held by a spring to avoid breakage; it has a silvered reflector behind and is protected by a glass in front. It is attached to an oak case containing the battery, which has two cells of thirteen elements in series. There is a switch on the front and sockets for charging at the back.
