Safety glow lamp with storage battery, Sussmann Electric Manufacturing Lamp Co.

This portable electric lamp was patented in 1893 by Max Sussmann. The secondary battery contains two cells in series, each containing three lead plates embedded in paper pulp saturated with sulphuric acid. The whole is enclosed in a steel case with a cover soldered on supporting a glow lamp with enamelled reflectors below, above and behind, all enclosed in a glass cylinder. A sliding switch is provided. Being nearly dry, the lamp can be used in any position. It is stated to give 1 candlepower for 16 hours. A lead plug lock is fitted.
