Mexican candle holder.

This holder, known as a "lanternilla", is an open box with a stem below and a handle above, all cut out of solid wood. The candle is placed in a groove in the stem and is adjusted by thongs so as to project into the box through a hole protected by metal. There is a recess in the back of the stem for holding spare candles.
