Safety lamp

Safety lamp, Routledge and Johnson, Mueseler type (bonnetted), maker: J. Abbot and Co, Gateshead, 1901

This is an oil lamp of the bonneted Clanny type, embodying details patented in 1884 by Messrs. J. Routledge and H. Johnson. The air for combustion is admitted at the bottom of the bonnet, through the gauze case and through a gauze annulus, a metal chimney inside the gauze case separating this air from the products of combustion. There is a screw lock to the oil -cup, but no lock is fitted to the bonnet.
