Folding joiner's bench, the fore runner of the 'workmate' bench;c1969

This article is the forerunner of the 'Workmate' bench by Black & Decker, to whom the inventor sold the manufacturing rights. The general features of the bench are now imitated by several other firms too. This object is to the original design, corresponding to British patent numbers 1267032-5, for which R. P. Hickman filed his application on 4th March 1968. It. Such folding benches have become very widely used in the joinery and allied trades as well as by amateurs.This example shows evidence of frequent usage with heavy saw nicks across the the edges of the top.
