More
This is a fine amateur's 1:10 scale model of a Marshall class MP, single-cylinder, horizontal steam engine from about 1896. It was made by Charles G. Stiff, formerly chief engineer at Rustington Convalescent Home, Sussex, where the real steam engine drove a dynamo to provide electric light and power for the building. Stiff had maintained the machine as a young man and had access to it when he started working on the model in 1970. Some of the wooden patterns and cores made by Stiff, and used by him to make the castings for the model, are shown alongside.
