Sample book containing skeins of viscose yarn, ten pages with 40 samples in total. Front page of book inscribed (in ink) "Forty Dye Samples Kew 1900. Boer War and Paris Exhibition Time. Dyed Earliest Skeins for Paris. Dyed a "Victory " Flag in June for flying at Kew factory. NOTE. 11.9.1950. So these are the not quite first Viscose skeins ever dyed. EJB (underlined) Note March 1954 Book bought in Richmond for 4s/3d 24 July 1901. Skein put in from 31st. Samul Courtauld's directors, sing my skeins in the Paris Exhibition, eventually decided to buy Viscose SPINNING PATENT & start RAYON at Coventry. Then called Artificial Silk." 29 x 22.5 x 4 cm, Pages mildewed.
