Commonplace books of an unknown engineer, 1825-1837. The engineer was probably from the Stockton area of north-east England. The books include excerpts from and notes on books on engineering, and notes on specific aspects of engineering (and bear a few illustrations). They chiefly include notes and chronological entries on specific engineering projects: Liverpool & Manchester, Stockton & Darlington, Darlington & Middlesbrough Railways, with details of all the bridges of the first-named; the suspension bridge over the Tees; the Norwich & Lowestoft Navigation, etc. /3 contains much detailed information on work on the Tees Navigation 1828-30. /4 is chiefly a diary of a tour of iron works etc in Wales. 4 volumes.
