HDC-100 HD camera head, manufactured by Sony, 1988. High Definition Video System, Serial no 10703. Number '2' painted on front of camera body above lens turret. Fitted with Nikon R& lens (1997-5291/5). Part of Sony High Definition camera chain, 1988.

In the 1980s, the Japanese broadcaster NHK introduced the world's first HD television system and it was used to broadcast the 1984 Olympics. The experiments didn't last long but NHK and Sony are still HD sports broadcasting pioneers.
