A bone plate is essentially a metal bar with holes for screws. It is used to stabilise and repair bone fractures throughout the body. These plates range from 76 mm to 140 mm in length. They are made from Vitallium – an alloy of cobalt and chromium used widely for surgical instruments and prostheses. The plates (1999-159, 1999-160, 1999-161, 1999-162, 1999-163, 1999-164, 1999-165 and 1999-166) were made by Howmedica UK Ltd.
