Kelvin Haptic or Scleral lenses set
- maker:
- Kelvin Lenses Limited
Original set of Kelvin Haptic lenses for fitting purposes in box (2 lenses missing, rubber inserts perished), c. 1950 Scleral lenses cover the entire visible white part of the eye (the sclera). easy to handle and comfortable in comparison to rigid corneal lenses because the edge is under the lids. The major disadvantage of scleral lenses is the time and skill required in fitting. Generally made of PMMA material, which does not allow oxygen transmission, thus corneal swelling was a problem.
