Austin fire engine with 60ft. Merryweather turntable ladder, 1943. Used by the National Fire Service.

This 1943 turntable appliance is one of the special machines built to respond to the German V1 flying bombs and V2 rockets attacking London towards the end of the Second World War. It is one of 50 engines fitted with a hand-operated 60 ft Merryweather turntable ladder during the Second World War and has a 300 gpm Barton pump mounted on the front bumper.

After war service in the National Fire Service it went in 1948 to Leicester and Rutland Fire Service, then to the factory brigade at Rowntree & Co at York.
