Schwartzkopf's universal spanner was one of the first patented design for an adjustable spanner, the tool maligned by sensible engineers everywhere, but capable of working with nuts of different sizes. the spanner was patented in 1862-4, and manufactured in teh UK by the Argus Works, Sheffield.
