Three old horn graining combs

Flat graining comb, nineteenth century. Graining combs were used for creating a grained effect by painters and decorators. 'Graining' was a decorative technique widely used in the nineteenth century to simulate expensive hardwood or marble grain on the surface of cheap pine furniture and architectural features.
