Brown and Sharpe universal grinding machine

Brown and Sharpe universal grinding machine, 1903

The universal grinding machine was introduced by the Brown & Sharpe Company in 1875. This is a fairly early example which includes improvements up to 1903. Features of Joseph R. Brown's patent were the swivel table mounted on a reciprocating table and provision for adjusting the relative positions of the head-and-tail stocks and the wheel arbor, so that a great variety of work could be done on the machine.
