Annotated Coronation Street script, episode 560

Made:
1966 in Manchester

Original annotated script from episode 560 of the Granada Television series 'Coronation Street', 1966, 44 pages.

Soap opera Coronation Street was first broadcast on 9 December 1960, for an initial 13 episode run. Production company Granada Television did not believe it would continue beyond the initial episodes and television critics of the day were not very impressed, but the public disagreed. Reflecting the kitchen sink movement in the arts in the late 1950s, creator Tony Warren developed and wrote a more realistic, working-class community, combined with strong central characters. Corrie, as it is known to its fans, won millions of viewers and became a national institution.

Episode 560 was broadcast on the 25 April 1966. It was the debut script by Leslie Duxbury who later became a long-term scriptwriter and producer. One of the storylines was the 1966 census. In real life one in every ten households were chosen to fill in a more detailed long form; in Coronation Street the household chosen were the occupants of number 13 - Stan and Hilda Ogden. While Hilda is proud to have been chosen to fill out the form, work-shy Stan is not impressed with the extra work he’ll have to do to complete it.
