Replica fuel element for Jason reactor

Made:
1958-1959 in United Kingdom

Replica fuel element for Jason reactor. The real fuel element is an aluminium box (as is the dummy) but the 16 fuel plates are made of 80% enriched U235 clad in an aluminium skin. This makes the actual fuel element much heavier than the dummy. The dummy fuel element was used in demonstrations for training men at the Naval college and for showing to visitors. Made 1958-1959.

This model is a dummy fuel element from the Jason nuclear reactor, which was formerly used for training submarine officers and for demonstration purposes at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich. Like the original fuel element, the dummy is made of aluminium, but does not contain the 16 fuel plates made of 80 per cent enriched uranium-235.
