Pair of carpenter's matching planes for grooving and tonguing floor boards

These examples represent the type of matching plane in use about the period 1860-1880 for the preparation of tongued and grooved boarding. The oldest type was provided with a pin in front for an assistant to pull on by a cord. Their use was superseded by special machinery about 1900.
