Right extension prosthesis for a boy with a short thigh (femur). Blocked leather lace-up ischial-bearing socket

Hanger Orthopaedic Group, Inc

Right extension prosthesis for a boy with a short thigh (femur). Blocked leather lace-up ischial-bearing socket, embracing the whole limb. Jointed side steels to a two-piece metal shin, wood foot, toe and ankle joints. Note the knee joints are set at the level of a normal knee to allow the wearer to sit naturally. N.B. The artificial foot is very pointed as 'winkle-picker' shoes were in vogue at the time. At the age of 16 this boy requested amputation of the leg at knee level. He subsequently wore a conventional above knee prosthesis. Made by Hanger in 1963.
