McKay heavy working arm for a right below elbow amputation. Blocked leather socket with duralumin cuff and reinforcing side steels. These extend up the forearm from the wrist rotary and the latter has a heavy-duty spline fitment for terminal devices. Adjustable leather side suspension straps fitted to a detachable leather upper-arm corset (the strap and buckle fastening is missing). The small metal housed roller on the medial side, near the elbow, is for a round leather operating cord (missing). The harness appendages are also missing. Light-weight certalmid hand. Made by McKay, c.1925.
Artificial right arm (1999-543) for a below-elbow amputee, made by McKay for use in heavy duty work. It can be fitted with a number of attachments: for example, a round, plain hook, a carpenter's tool-holder with a square clamp, a general purpose mechanical spring split-hook, a saw appliance, a brace and chisel holder (all c 1920), and a hammer (c 1930) (1999-614, 1999-626, 1999-627, 1999-628, 1999-629 & 1999-630). The hand is made of light-weight certalmid, a combination of certus glue, muslin and celluloid developed during World War I.
