Scale model (1:8) of commercial coffee roasting machinery, patented in 1848 by Mrs. E. Dakin. A batch of green beans would be placed in the drum, which rotated as it was heated giving the beans an even roast. The drum would probably roast at a temperature of 240 degrees C for 8-10 minutes. Direct heating of the cylinder is avoided on account of the risk of burning the contents. Supplied by Dakin and Co., St. Paul's Churchyard, London. 1855-58; Patent number 12,198 granted to Elizabeth Dakin for apparatus to clean and roast coffee.
