Book 'A list of two thousand microscopic objects', by Andrew Pritchard (Whittaker & Co., London 1835).

Written by Andrew Pritchard (1804-82), a microscopist and spectacle maker, this book lists numerous animals and plants that have been viewed underneath a microscope.

Pritchard was more of an optician, spectacle maker and salesman than a bi-ologist and so the book was aimed mainly at the interested amateur. It sold for 1 shilling (just over £4 today.) The book also gave ideas for specimens to view under the microscope, how to do so accurately and how to label specimens of natural history, botany and mineralogy correctly. Shelved in the Science Museum Library 19th century book collection at: 57.086 PRITCHARD.
