Shelvador electric compression domestic refrigerator, an example of the first model to be equipped with internal shelves inside the door, streamlined design, by the Crosley Radio Corporation, USA, c. 1934-1935.
In the early 1930s, in order to meet rapidly growing demand in the USA, the American entrepreneur Powel Crosley began making domestic refridgerators. He bought the rights to a simple innovation: putting shelves inside the refridgerator door. Other manufacturers had rejected the idea, but consumers agreed with Crosley.
The Shelvador became a market leader, and was the only refridgerator with shelves in the door until the patent ran out.
